BLACK BUSINESS WOMAN ANNOUNCES HER RUN FOR FLORIDA US SENATE
Ft. Lauderdale, FL: Tomorrow at 11 A.M., Author, Life Coach and Women’s Rights advocate, Lateresa Jones, will officially announce her run for Florida US Senate in 2016 as an independent. The announcement will take place at the African American Research Library (2650 Sistrunk Blvd, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33311). Jones, a 4th generation Black American, feels this is her responsibility.
Jones is a successful businesswoman and is the first black woman to own a cigar shop in Texas. She is also a Life Coach with a “12 Steps to Greatness” CD program and published author of “America We Are Guilty”. But life for Jones wasn’t always favorable.
Growing up in Detroit, Jones was raped by her stepfather beginning at the tender age of 5. The abuse led to several abortions before she was 13. At 13, she carried a baby full term and her parents raised her as their own. She ran away to the protection of a husband who continued the mental and physical abuse until she fled to Florida. Here she met her current husband who has supported her and remained faithfully by her side ever since.
It was this lifetime of abuse that propelled Jones to stand up in the fight against domestic and sexual abuse. Today she actively collaborates with RAINN (Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network) as a member of RAINN’s Speakers Bureau. She works to educate the public about the mental effects of sexual assault.
“God spoke to me and told me I must deliver my message to the masses. I prayed and asked for guidance, he told me US Senate. In order to change how people and society address issues we must change laws. It is not about me, it’s about being the voice of many, WE THE PEOPLE creating a future of change for humans.” Said Jones.
