Do Spankings trigger violence in our children?

The last decade in the US we have had more violent crimes committed by children then we have seen in most of our life times. Colombine, University of Alabama at Huntsville, Sandy Hook elementary just to mention a few extreme cases of violence committed by children. Let’s talk about the violence in the homes that children learn from parents. Parents are the people who build the foundation for our children. Parents have the responsibility of parenting (or child rearing) the process of promoting and supporting the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of a child from infancy to adulthood. Parenting refers to the aspects of raising a child aside from the biological relationship. Blaming the violent negative actions of children on Media violence, video games, things you the parents can control by setting guidelines in your home. Let’s talk about things in the home that may contribute to a violent child, when a child lives in a home with domestic violence, when an abuser abuses, everyone in the home is frightened. He/she the abuser doesnt discriminate against the children viewing the beatings of the person, the abuser feels those actions bring a certain act of power and control he/she receives in the home. The effects on our children when witnessing that type of physical abuse how do they decide what’s acceptable and what is not when this becomes a way of life for them and the victim (parent) is one of authority in the children’s life, most don’t respect that victim parent. Those children grow up and now you have the consequences in society of the another generation of victims/abusers produced. According to the 2009 Women’s Health Data Book Report, more than 2.5 million American women experience and report domestic abuse each year.

Abuse is when you intentionally misuse your authority as a parent when disciplining your child and you physically, mentally, harm or injure the child.

Children are suffering from a hidden epidemic of child abuse and neglect. Every year 3.3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States involving nearly 6 million children (a report can include multiple children). The United States has the worst record in the industrialized nation – losing five children every day due to abuse-related deaths

Child abuse consequences in society;
•14% of all men in prison in the USA were abused as children.
•36% of all women in prison were abused as children.
•Children who experience child abuse & neglect are 59% more likely to be arrested as a juvenile, 28% more likely to be arrested as an adult, and 30% more likely to commit violent crime

Parents that abuse substances•One-third to two-thirds of child maltreatment cases involve substance use to some degree.
•Children whose parents abuse alcohol and other drugs are three times more likely to be abused and more than four times more likely to be neglected than children from non-abusing families.
•As many as two-thirds of the people in treatment for drug abuse reported being abused or neglected as children.

A fair statement we are a society of denial, COWARDS that don’t take responsibility nor deal with self issues and now blame children for what they have learned in the home. Adults have choices the children DO NOT they do as they SAW, not what they were told.

We like choices and words that take responsibility off of us and attach to things that are nicer,that is 1 reason bullying has become so popular, parents can blame the hate in kids, on kids. It puts the responsibility on the children and not attack the core issue of the problem at home starting with PARENTS.

1.intimidation of weaker person: the process of intimidating or mistreating somebody weaker or in a more vulnerable situation

Domestic violence, child abuse, would fall under the definition of bullying, all negative violent behaviors initiated in the home environment and society.

Community awareness and education will be 1 major contributing factor that can help decrease, domestic violence, child abuse, and children committing violent crimes. The communities are the LIFELINE . You cannot HEAL or solve a problem unless we walk outta denial.

Accept the challenges in your home and deal with them, you are the change.
